The History of Internet Web directories
The concept for the Internet was conceived in 1969 by an agency of the U.S. government. The primary reason for creating the Internet, was to allow users at one university in talk to, users at another university computer. The Internet was known by ARPNET back then, and allowed messages to be passed between the two computers. People use the Internet web directory and hypertext language in web pages to organize information that is available on the Internet.
The browsers on the Internet contain search engines that access Internet web directory categories that are listed on a web browser’s search engine web pages. The Internet web directory functions similarly to a telephone directory that would be used in the home to find business and personal information that you need.
The Internet web directory is presented in list form with links to various Internet locations that are separated by categories, with time the Internet has developed into a huge range of different directories, some of them are theme specific. The website would be considered a category of information, i.e., physicians, home decorating, or construction materials. There may be thousands of listing in an Internet web directory, and under that one category, there may be subcategories that are also listed by the hundreds of thousands.
